Data we collect
We collect only minimal, non-identifiable information needed for app functionality and performance: approximate location, app interactions, purchase status and Apple-provided diagnostics when enabled. Surf spot details, coordinates, notes and forecast data are processed only when you use the optional AI surf report feature with permission.
None of these categories are linked to your identity or used for tracking.
Location data
Approximate location may be used in real time to suggest nearby tide stations and load relevant forecasts. It is not stored or linked to your identity, and can be disabled in iOS Settings.
Purchases, usage and diagnostics
Apple StoreKit manages purchases. We do not receive or store billing details. We may use anonymous interaction and feature-engagement information to improve the app. We do not use third-party advertising analytics SDKs. Apple provides crash information only when you opt in.
Forecast providers
nextSurf uses services including NIWA, MetOcean, Stormglass, WillyWeather and WorldTides. We do not send personally identifiable information to these providers.
AI-powered surf reports
With your permission, nextSurf sends the selected spot name, address and coordinates, any custom notes, forecast data, device type, operating-system version and app version to OpenAI’s API to create a surfer-friendly report.
We do not send your name, email, Apple ID or other account identifiers. The information is used only to generate the report, not for advertising or profiling. OpenAI processes it under its privacy and API policies, potentially in the United States.
This feature is optional. You can decline it, continue using other features, and revoke consent in the app’s Settings.
Linking and tracking
We do not link collected information to your identity, sell personal information, or track you across apps and websites.
Your choices and rights
You may disable location, opt out of Apple diagnostics, avoid the AI report feature, or revoke AI consent. US and Canadian users may also have rights to access, correct or delete information and withdraw consent. Contact us to make a request. We will not discriminate against anyone for exercising privacy rights.
